“Twenty Five, Twenty One” premiere pulls in 1.5 million viewers

Nam Joo-hyuk and Kim Tae-ri’s new drama “Twenty-Five, Twenty-One” is off to a good start as its premiere on tvN recorded a nationwide rating of 6.37 percent on Saturday night.

The viewer rating translates to an estimated viewers of 1.5 million nationwide, according to Nielsen Korea.

Set in the late 1990s, “Twenty-Five, Twenty-One” follows a teen fencer (Kim Tae-ri) as she chases big ambitions and meets a hardworking young man (Nam Joo-hyuk) who is trying to rebuild his life in a time when dreams seem elusive. The drama is directed by Jung Ji-hyun whose past works include “The King: Eternal Monarch” and “Mr. Sunshine.”

Kim Tae-ri’s last drama was the historical series “Mr. Sunshine” in 2018, making “Twenty-Five, Twenty-One” her reunion project with director Jung.

Nam Joo-hyuk, meanwhile, last appeared in “Start-Up” (2020) where he starred opposite Bae Suzy.

The premiere of “Twenty-Five, Twenty One” aired more than an hour earlier than “Forecasting Love and Weather,” also a new romantic series on JTBC that scored a nationwide rating of 4.51 percent or an audience of 1.1 million viewers.

“Forecasting Love and Weather” tells the love story of a weather forecaster (Park Min-young) and her spirited co-worker (Song Kang) as they navigate love that proves harder to predict than weather. It is the latest work of Cha Young-hoon, the director of the award-winning 2019 Kdrama “When the Camellia Blooms.”

Twenty-Five, Twenty-One” and “Forecasting Love and Weather” are also released weekly on Netflix after its TV broadcast, making it available for streaming to millions of people outside Korea.

Meanwhile, KBS2’s “Young Lady and Gentleman” still led the weekend viewership in free-to-air TV, with its newest episode obtaining 30.1 percent or an estimated viewer count of 5.4 million. The drama is headlined by Ji Hyun-woo and Lee Se-hee.
