K drama daily ratings update

[Last Updated on March 28, 2024]

These nationwide Korean drama ratings data are sourced from Nielsen—which is the leading analytics firm that measures and releases television viewership performance in South Korea. The list of posts below include the Kdrama ratings this week and for the last two months.

Ratings FAQ

What is Rating?

Rating is the average percentage of households with televisions that tuned in to watch the drama during its airing. This is the most commonly reported metric in news articles mentioning or discussing K-drama viewership. Unless otherwise stated, ratings in our content refer to nationwide ratings, which differ from Seoul metropolitan area ratings that are also measured by Nielsen.

What is Viewers?

Viewers is the average number of people watching the drama in any given minute while it is broadcast. We use this metric when comparing the viewership performance of dramas across all free-to-air and cable channels. A household is composed of individual viewers.

How do you collect ratings data?

These data are publicly available on the official Nielsen Korea website. Every day, we manually collect the specific information we need from the site and add it to our database. However, it’s important to note that Nielsen only provides data for the top 20 dramas in free-to-air television and the top 10 in comprehensive/cable TV.

When a TV series does not appear in these rankings due to Nielsen’s limitations, we gather viewership data from trustworthy secondary sources. These sources include, but are not limited to, news articles from reputable Korean media outlets and search results from Daum.

It’s worth mentioning that Nielsen offers full access to its data to its clients, such as TV broadcasting channels. These clients, in turn, share this information with the press and other relevant parties. This collaborative effort eventually leads to the public release of data that was originally not readily available on the Nielsen website.

How to compare performance between dramas?

Use ratings to compare two or more dramas that belong to the same category (free-to-air or cable). It doesn’t make sense to compare a free-to-air series to a cable drama because their ratings are calculated using different total numbers of households.

Instead, use viewers to directly compare two or more dramas that do not belong in the same category.
