After winning the grand prize at the 2023 Baeksang Arts Awards for her splendid performance in “Extraordinary Attorney Woo,” Park Eun-bin is set to grace the small screen once again with her latest drama, “Castaway Diva.”

Transitioning from her role as an autistic lawyer in her previous series, Park Eun-bin now embraces the character of an aspiring singer in “Castaway Diva.” The show tells the story of a young woman whose dreams take an unexpected turn when a tragic accident leaves her stranded on a deserted island for 15 years. It also stars Kim Hyo-jin, Chae Jong-hyeop, and Cha Hak-yeon, with the first episode featuring teen actors Lee Re and Moon Woo-jin.

The premiere of the series garnered a modest nationwide rating of 3.172%, drawing an estimated 787,000 viewers, as reported by Nielsen Korea. These figures are not quite the performance tvN had hoped for, as the network has been struggling to dominate weekend drama viewership this year since “Crash Course in Romance” concluded in March.

In fact, this 3.2% falls short of the 4.2% average first episode rating of all the primetime tvN series that premiered from January to October this year.

However, tvN has reason to remain optimistic, given the unprecedented success of “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” last year. The legal drama only obtained a 0.9% rating in its first episode, but defied all odds and climbed to an astonishing 17.5% during its finale, becoming one of the highest-rated Korean dramas of 2022.

Castaway Diva” airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:20 p.m. KST. Netflix also releases weekly episodes of the drama for fans and viewers outside Korea.

Meanwhile, SBS’s “My Dearest” continues to dominate the Saturday night primetime competition, boasting an impressive 12.0% and attracting around 2.1 million viewers nationwide.
