Previously, in June of last year, director Hwang Dong-hyuk had announced through Netflix Korea’s official social media that season 1 cast members Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun would be reprising their roles in “Squid Game 2,” with a possibility of Gong Yoo also making another appearance.

Im Si-wan will star alongside Lee Jung-jae and Lee Byung-hun as the main characters in the second season, according to the same report.

The total production budget for “Squid Game 2” is known to be over 100 billion KRW (approximately 78 million USD). After completing the casting process, the production team is set to start filming this summer with the aim of releasing the series in 2024.

Written and directed by Hwang Dong-hyuk, “Squid Game” tells the story of desperate people participating in a mysterious survival game where a prize of 45.6 billion KRW (approximately $36 million) is at stake, risking their lives in fatal games to become the final winner. Its release in 2021 was a momentous event for Netflix as it recorded 1.65 billion hour views in the first 28 days, making it the biggest series premiere of the streaming service up to this day.
