‘Extraordinary Attorney Woo’ ratings soar to 5%

With only a 0.9% rating in its first episode, the new Korean drama “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” has seen a quite impressive increase in its TV viewership just two weeks into its eight-week run.

This after its latest and fourth episode, aired Thursday, recorded a nationwide average rating of 5.2%, up by 4.2 percentage points compared to the pilot episode—the biggest difference in ratings ever recorded by any drama in its first two weeks so far this year. Its rating on Thursday peaked at 6.4%.

The series obtained a 5.7% average rating in Seoul metropolitan area.

In terms of viewers, “Extraordinary Attorney Woo” has improved by 251% from 396,000 viewers in episode 2 to 1.4 million in episode 4, making it the most watched Wednesday-Thursday drama on prime time this week.

The show easily beat its rivals “Eve” (tvN) and “Insider” (JTBC), which recorded 3.7% and 2.9%, respectively.

This achievement in rating is not the only indicator of the show’s popularity in Korea. Last week, it became the most buzzworthy or talked about drama online according to analytics firm GOODDATA Corp., unseating previous no. 1 “Alchemy of Souls” by a wide margin in buzz share. Extraordinary Attorney Woo” centers on a woman, played by Park Eun-bin, who became Korea’s first-ever lawyer with autism spectrum disorder. The story follows the brilliant attorney as she faces challenges in the courtroom and overcomes prejudices against person like her who have problems with social communication and interaction.

The series airs on cable channel ENA and is also released every week on Netflix.
