Bae Suzy has been offered to star in an upcoming drama called “The Girl Downstairs,” her agency Management SOOP said on March 10.

The agency made the statement in response to an exclusive Sports Chosun report claiming that the actress is already confirmed for the series.

“The Girl Downstairs” is a TV adaptation of a romantic webtoon of the same name by Min Song-ah. First released in 2019, the ongoing webtoon has 124 episodes, 34 million views, and 548,000 readers at the time of writing.

The story centers on college freshman Won-joon who moves into his new apartment and gets surprised upon knowing that the woman who lives downstairs is the gorgeous ex-celebrity Doo-na.

According to Management SOOP, Suzy is considering the role of Lee Doo-na, the former main vocalist of a girl group called Dream Sweet. Described as an unpredictable person, Doo-na suddenly retired from her job and has returned studying at the Department of Theater and Film in Minsong University.

It has been more than a year since Suzy starred in a drama. She took on the role of a CEO in the 2020 series “Start-Up” opposite Nam Joo-hyuk. In February 2022, the actress and singer released the single “Satellite,” her first music project in four years.

“The Girl Downstairs” will be directed by Lee Jung-hyo, whose recent works include “Crash Landing on You,” “Romance is a Bonus Book,” and “Life on Mars.” It is being called a Netflix series although it remains unclear whether it will be an original that will stream exclusively on the platform.
