1st Blue Dragon Series Awards Winners: ‘D.P.’, Kim Go-eun, Lee Jung-jae

Lee Jung-jae and Kim Go-eun at the 1st Blue Dragon Series Awards

Korean original Netflix series “D.P.” won Best Drama at the recently concluded Blue Dragon Series Awards.

The Blue Dragon Series Awards took place on July 19 at Incheon’s Paradise City and was hosted by Jun Hyun-moo and Girls’ Generation’s Im Yoon-ah. Launched by Sports Chosun—which presents the annual Blue Dragon Film Awards—it is Korea’s first award ceremony for original dramas and variety shows on over-the-top streaming platforms.

Earlier this year, “D.P.” also took home a similar recognition at the Baeksang Arts Awards, becoming the first streaming-based content to win the prestigious prize.

Meanwhile, Lee Jung-jae won Best Actor for his performance in “Squid Game,” also a Netflix original that made history at the 2022 SAG awards. The actor expressed gratitude to Netflix and the “Squid Game” team during his acceptance speech.

The best actress award went to Kim Go-eun for her role in “Yumi’s Cells” (TVING). In her speech, she said the award has become more meaningful as she remembered her best new actress win for “A Muse” at the Blue Dragon Film Awards exactly 10 years ago.

Lee Hak-joo of “Political Fever” (Wavve) bagged the best supporting actor trophy while Kim Shin-rok of “Hellbound” (Netflix) won Best Supporting Actress. Interestingly, the 2022 Baeksang Arts Awards also awarded the same prize to Kim.

Among the rookie actor hopefuls, Goo Kyo-hwan (“D.P.”) and Jung Ho-yeon (“Squid Game”) emerged as the winner in the male and female category, respectively. Goo also took home the Baeksang Arts Award for best new actor.

Finally, the popularity awards were given to Jung Hae-in (“D.P”), Han Hyo-joo (TVING’s “Happiness”), Kang Daniel (Disney+’s “Rookie Cops”), Park Jae-chan and Park Seo-ham of “Semantic Error” (Apple TV), and Lee Yong-jin (TVING’s “Transit Love”).
