‘Queen of Tears’ sets new record with 3.56 million viewers

Ongoing cable drama “Queen of Tears” ascended to new heights on Sunday night, captivating a staggering 3.56 million viewers during its 6th episode, according to data from Nielsen Korea.

The tvN drama now claims the throne as the most-watched primetime drama in South Korea across both free-to-air and cable channels in 2024, eclipsing the previous record held by MBC’s “Knight Flower” in February, which boasted 3.39 million viewers. So far this year, only these two series have achieved the milestone of surpassing 3 million viewers.

Queen of Tears episode ratings chart

Starring Kim Soo-hyun and Kim Ji-won, “Queen of Tears” also charted a new personal best in ratings, soaring to an impressive 14.068%, marking a notable one percent point increase from its previous week’s 12.985%. This year to date, “Queen of Tears” is no. 1 among cable series in terms of ratings, followed by tvN’s “Marry My Husband” (11.951%) and JTBC’s “Doctor Slump” (8.173%). (See full rankings.)

Meanwhile, the second episode of JTBC’s new drama, “Hide,” witnessed a modest uptick in viewership, securing a 4.323% rating and attracting 1.05 million viewers on Sunday night. Notably, its airing schedule avoids direct competition with “Queen of Tears.”

The second episode of “Beauty and Mr. Romantic” also saw improvement on KBS2, posting a 17.2% rating and captivating 2.93 million viewers nationwide.
