Ji Chang-wook, Shin Hye-sun to lead new romance drama

Ji Chang-wook and Shin Hye-sun

Ji Chang-wook and Shin Hye-sun are confirmed to star in the new JTBC drama “Welcome to Samdal-ri.”

“Welcome to Samdal-ri” is a romance drama that captures the story of two contrasting characters: one who treasures his humble hometown and another who wants to escape it. It is collaboration between director Cha Young-hoon, known for his work on “When the Camellia Blooms” and “Forecasting Love and Weather,” and writer Kwon Hye-joo who penned “Go Back Couple” and “Hi Bye, Mama!”

In the new series, Ji Chang-wook (“If You Wish Upon Me“) will portray Jeju Island’s weather forecaster Jo Yong-pil, a famously stubborn character who regularly challenges forecasts issued by the Korea Meteorological Administration headquarters. Having dreamt of becoming a forecaster following the loss of his mother due to a weather misprediction, Yong-pil is determined to protect his beloved Jeju, especially the precious elders of his hometown Samdal-ri.

Shin Hye-sun, who is starring in the currently airing tvN drama See You in My 19th Life, will step into the shoes of Jo Sam-dal, a well-known photographer. Sam-dal had always dreamt of leaving the island and making it big in Seoul. After eight long years of grueling work as an assistant, she managed to rise to the top in the fashion photography industry under the pseudonym ‘Jo Eun-hye’. However, an unforeseen event causes her carefully built career to crumble almost instantly, leading her to return to the hometown she once yearned to escape from.

Jo Yong-pil and Jo Sam-dal were born and raised together in Samdal-ri but had lost contact for several years due to an incident that drove them apart. Sam-dal’s unexpected return to her hometown brings the two childhood companions back together, leading them to experience the profound warmth and heart-thumping excitement of long-held affection and love.

“Welcome to Samdal-ri” is scheduled for broadcast in the second half of 2023.
