Cable dramas of tvN have entered the latest global Netflix chart for popular non-English TV shows available on the streaming service.
According to official data from Netflix, the ongoing Korean series “Alchemy of Souls” rose to no. 5 on the weekly ranking from June 27 to July 3, 2022, recording 9.92 million hour views. This is the first time that the drama, which premiered on tvN and released on Netflix on June 18, has made it to the top 10 chart.
Starring Lee Jae-wook and Jung So-min, the CGI-enhanced fantasy drama written by the Hong Sisters (“Hotel del Luna”) made it to the top 10 ranking in 13 countries, including Nigeria, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.
“Alchemy of Souls” airs every Saturday and Sunday and has so far released six of its 20 episodes.
Meanwhile, “Ghost Doctor,” another fantasy series starring Rain and Kim Bum, ranked sixth on the same chart with 9.87 million hour views. It aired on tvN from January 3 to February 22, 2022 but only became available on Netflix in the fourth week of June.
“Ghost Doctor” was more popular than “Alchemy of Souls” by the number of countries where it made the top 10, making a presence in 22 countries.
A total of three Korean dramas earned a spot in the global ranking last week, with Netflix original series “Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area” owning the no. 1 spot for two consecutive weeks since its June 24 release.
A remake of the hit Spanish crime drama of the same name, “Money Heist: Korea” made the top 10 ranking in a total of 77 countries and became the most popular TV show in Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam.
